We went out to dinner a few Fridays ago and Mabel ate her first onion ring. She had this look on her face that said, Why have you been keeping these from me, lo these many months? And the Nugget tried it, and it was good.
We had a nice long Easter weekend. I was off work Friday and Monday and Dylan's schedule was lighter than usual so we all got to hang out a lot. We went to the park a bunch, took day trips to Annapolis and Shepherdstown, went out for dinner, rolled eggs next door with the Fernkas-Ankrah's and .... oh, yes. Mabel got a new wagon, which is quite spectacular, so we spent a lot of time taking her for walks, rolling it around the backyard and in general just loving the wagon. It is deluxe - seating for two, storage (Mabel recommends always having a snack, a book and at least one sippy cup on board at all times) and four cup holders, plus a canopy. I think she looks a bit like the Queen Mother when she's being carted around in it.
Mabel would like everyone to know that Gardening Season has officially begun. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare your rakes. Also, she can now say flower (she says 'fower. nice.').
This weekend Mabel started identifying herself as May-May. She pointed to a picture of a baby in a book and said 'May-May!', and then a few hours later saw a photo of herself and said the same thing. I really thought Mabel was a name that couldn't be shortened, but apparently I was wrong. It's very cute that she recognizes herself and realizes she has a name. I am fairly certain she will still answer to Mabel, and also Nugget, Goose, etc.
Today is Crazy Hat Day at St. Jerome's, in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. (It's also Jon Bon Jovi's birthday. If only Mabel had a tiny pair of leather pants to wear in celebration.) Here's Mabel enjoying morning snacktime, looking glorious in her Crazy Hat. Which, upon further reflection, makes her look a bit like 1) a bridesmaid from the 80's and also 2) a little old lady at a tea party.
I went to the thrift store over the weekend and got this awesome rocking horse for Mabel. It's too big to fit through the doorway of her room, though, so for the time being it is living on the front porch.
